Heads Up on Star Wars: The Old Republic

Star Wars: The Old Republic, is an upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game based on the Star Wars universe. Developed by BioWare Austin and team, and published by LucasArts and Electronic Arts , the game was first announced on October 21, 2008, at an invitation-only press event and was scheduled to be released in the second half of 2011.

A novel related to the game written by Sean Williams called Star Wars: The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance was released on July 21, 2010.  An internet comic produced by Dark Horse and written by The Old Republic developer Rob Chestney also gives a backstory to the game.

The eagerly awaited collectors edition were expected to be issued this week, but just before that, there have already been a few give-aways. GameStop has listed the $150 collectors edition, with perfectly official-looking art and clearly defined contents. It says that purchasing this edition of BioWare’s MMO also makes you the owner of a “Gentle Giant Darth Malgus statue,” a metal case, “The Journal of Master Gnost-Dural,” a map, a soundtrack, and seven in-game items, including an exclusive CE-only in-game store.

There have also been pictures leaked reportedly by a Polish retailer, which includes a price of $220 and informing people that the pre-orders would go on sale today at 2a.m CST. Though the list which revealed all the contents of the fancy-pants collection has been taken of the website, it seems to have been picked up way before it got deleted, and has now been doing the rounds. Pre-orders would be offered in the basic edition as well as the specific edition. It is reported that only the first 50,000 pre-orders are guaranteed and the rest of the orders would be dished out on priority basis. These would be handled only through EA’s online store-Origin, and those interested must have an Origin account prior to the pre-launch.

The picture revealed by the Polish retailer website shows owners that they can receive the following on purchase –  Custom Security Authentication Key (i.e. Authenticator) , Exclusive Music of Star Wars: The Old Republic CD and High-Quality Collector’s Edition Box in addition to the items mentioned in the list by GameStop. There are also in-game items which include Flare Gun: Fire flares into the air, Training Droid: Hovers at your side for combat assistance, HoloDancer: Project your own holographic dancer, HoloCam: Keep visual records of in-game adventures, STAP: Sleek and unique in-game vehicle and Exclusive Mouse Droid: Spunky droid to join your adventures

Though the official date of release is still expected to be somewhere towards the end of this year, this is a heads up on what one could expect if he wishes to lay his hands on the collectibles.
