How to flush dns cache

In order to speed up DNS resolution most OS cache DNS results for some time  ,If you want to  flush dns cache manually you may follow these steps.

Steps to flush dns cache in windows

Open up your Windows Command prompt.

  1. For Vista, Window 7 and Windows 8: you must click “Start” and enter “Command” in the search field
  2. Then enter
    ipconfig /flushdns

Steps for linux

There are lots of variant of Linux you can try these commands :

nscd -I hosts

If above command fails try

sudo service dns-clean restart

Steps for mac

For OS X Yosemite and later

If OS X v10.10.4 or later:

sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

If OS X v10.10 through v10.10.3:

sudo discoveryutil mdnsflushcache

For OS X Mavericks, Mountain Lion, and Lion

sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

For Mac OS X Snow Leopard

sudo dscacheutil -flushcache
