Game of thrones is a fantasy TV series created by D. B. Weiss and D. Benioff for HBO. The series features a cast which is predominantly British. It is based on the best-selling series of 7 fantasy novels known as A Song of Ice and Fire by George Martin. The first one in the series is called A game of thrones. It started in April, 2011. The series has been well received, earning it a loyal fan base.

The series follows several storylines of ASIF and Martin has said that the pilot script of the show was faithful towards his work. Set in Westeros and its Seven Kingdoms, where “the summers may span decades while winters may go through a lifetime; the series chronicles though the violent struggles of dynasty among the 7 noble families of the kingdom for control on Iron Throne. Additional threats in the form of ice and snow covered regions of Westeros as well as eastern continent would gradually emerge over the period of time.

The series also boasts of an impressive cast, consisting of Peter Dinklage in the role of Tyrion “The Imp” Lannister, Sean Bean in the role of Edd “Ned” Stark, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in the role of Ser Jaime “Kingslayer” Lannister, Mark Addy in the role of King Robert Baratheon, Lena Headey in the role of Cersei Lannister, Michelle Fairley in the role of Catelyn “Cat” Stark, Iain Glen in the role of Ser Jorah Mormont, Emilia Clarke in the role of Daenerys “Dany” Targaryen, Harry Lloyd in the role of Viserys Targaryen, Aidan Gillen in the role of Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish, Jason Momoa in the role of Khal Drogo, Kit Harington in the role of Jon Snow, Maisie Williams in the role of Arya Stark, Sophie Turner in the role of Sansa Stark, Alfie Allen in the role of Theon Greyjoy, Richard Madden in the role of Robb Stark, Jack Gleeson in the role of Joffrey Baratheon, Isaac Hempstead-Wright in the role of Bran Stark and Rory McCann in the role of Sandor “The Hound” Clegane.

Development of the series started in around January 2007. HBO, having acquired rights of the novel with the intention of turning it into a cable TV series, hired D. B. Weiss and David Benioff for writing the series. It was initially planned that Weiss and Benioff would be writing each episode except one every season, which co-executive producer and author George Martin was supposed to write. Later on, Bryan Cogman and Jane Espenson were added to both write an episode in the very first season.

Game of thrones has garnered a lot of popularity since its release. A gripping storyline and amazing execution are some of the major factors behind its popularity. So, watch the show and have a great time.
